One or two serious accidents are often enough to drain a hospital's blood stocks. People who have suffered great blood loss, may require about 50 units, which amounts to 50 donations. For people requiring transfusions, blood may be the difference between life and death. Certain patients such as those with kidney problems, require blood transfusions on a regular basis. This means that regular donations are needed.
To collect blood from donars who are not able reach of a blood donor center, this Mobile Donation Unit visits various local sites and even individual companies during the year which also helps awareness of the issue and encourages recruitment of new blood donors, especially those who have limited free time.
As there is not a guarantee of sufficient power available locally during each stop, the on-board 20 kW Fischer Panda generator supplies power to all the essential systems and medical equipment.
